War of the Worlds - Trailer Analysis

War of the Worlds - Trailer Analysis

At the beginning of the trailer you see a shot of the Paramount logo shot, this instantly allows us to know as the audience that the film is being produced by a large professional company with a great track record of producing amazing films. This means that they are likely to attract a larger audience due to people liking films previously created by Paramount.

After this we get a close up on Tom Cruise, this is also a unique selling point. This is due to him being an extremely popular and well known actor, this also helps promote the film due to the fact that many people have seen him in multiple highly successful movies. This will cause a high number of people to come along and watch the film in the cinema. They have also put his name all over the trailer to once again remind audiences that he is in the film. In this shot of him you are able to hear him whispering, this suggests that he is trying to hide from something, due to him wanting to communicate. In this he is trying to take a leadership role, this can be seen by him instructing the girl to look at him rather than looking around and to follow his lead. We also know this due to the fact that he is looking down on her, this is also showing that he is more powerful than the young girl. They then use slow motion when the young girl is shaking her head, this is to slow down pace and to add dramatic effect to a very simple 'No'. It slows down the pace to make the fast pace scenes seem to be even quicker so that this film can seem action packed and exciting. The fact that this scene is dark also allows us to know

After this we switch to a new shot, this shot shows us an image of Dreamworks
